In 2004, The SMKC was proud to introduce the first Limited Junior Handling Competition in the United States to award scholarships to talented Juniors competing at our show.
A bold endeavor at the time, its concept and criteria have been copied and modified in other states as well.
To qualify for this annual competition, a Junior must have won a first place in two or more Open classes in Junior Showmanship at AKC licensed or member dog shows, between Jan. 1 and Dec 31 of the previous year. Wins must be at shows within the state of California and a resident of California , the junior must be at least 9 years of age at the time of each qualifying win. This includes licensed or member specialty shows as well as all-breed shows. Other qualifications and complete information can be found in our premium list each year.
Since its inception, The Sun Maid Kennel Club is proud to have awarded more than $50,000.00 in education scholarships to these talented Juniors who truly are the future of our sport.
